The Ultimate Open League Challenge Results 2018
After a season of fierce competition the final points were calculated to find the completed standings after all eight rounds of our Ultimate Open League.
Positions could not have been closer as going into our Sundown Showdown event just 12 points separated Michael Tarrant in 1st and James Burling in 2nd.
The points gaps mid-pack were in many cases even closer and many positions were poised for change as a potential of 60 points were up for grabs for those successful enough to make it to the elite National Final.
As we went into the National "Heat for the Elite" just 30 points separated the top 5 drivers and the standard of the finalists was extremely high.
Elviss Zutis, having been caught out at last years final, again suffered some poor luck as accidental contact saw him unfairly knocked to the back the pack, calling for a complete race restart of the Final. The tight and twisty track configuration saw a frenzy of over-taking and ultimately Michael Tarrant won the race which secured him the series win. Elviss took second and James third, this closed their points gap to just 3 points overall, but Burling had done enough to take second in the championship whilst Elviss took the runner-up spot on the podium.
The overall winner of the series, which has attracted in excess of 140 different competitors since February, was "Mad Mike" Tarrant, who's been the man to beat all year, with a total score of 175 points! This is one of our highest totals to date and just 5 off a perfect possible score of 180. James Burling finished 21 points behind with 154 points overall and Elviss Zutis closely followed with 151 points.
What a fitting end to an amazing season of competitive karting!
